MONDAINE demonstrates its commitment to the environment to mark World Earth Day – because time is running out!

Announcement of collaboration between MONDAINE and non-profit organisation Fairventures

Mother Earth – both our home and our most important possession. This year's World Earth Day on 22 April celebrates the event’s 50th anniversary and presents an opportunity to express our appreciation of our world and strengthen the environment. To mark World Earth Day, MONDAINE is now officially announcing its collaboration with the non-profit organisation Fairventures as part of the innovative Swiss watch brand’s global “WE CARE” strategy. To provide support to the NGO which campaigns for the reforestation of the Indonesian rainforest, MONDAINE has developed its own collection of WE CARE watches. The sustainably manufactured models will be available in mid-2020.

In 2020, World Earth Day celebrates its 50th anniversary. In light of the growing and increasingly evident ecological problems, and their grave consequences for human beings and the natural world as a whole, environmental protection is now more important than ever. MONDAINE has always appreciated the importance of sustainability and has demonstrated its active and wholehearted commitment to the issue for the best part of 50 years. The company based in Pfäffikon, Switzerland, has an exceptionally sustainable approach to its work that is also reflected in the production of its watches, which are manufactured almost entirely using solar energy generated by the company’s own photovoltaic system in Biberist, Solothurn.

Watches from the WE CARE range feature a white or black environmentally-friendly casing from the MONDAINE Swiss Railways station clock/SBB essence Collection, each with a striped strap in authentic natural colours. Launched in 2016, essence watches are made from over 70% sustainable materials. 41% of the materials used in the casing are derived from castor oil and 30% from glass powder to provide additional strength. The straps are made from recycled PET bottles. The packaging is also manufactured from recycled PET bottles and can be used as a case for mobile phones or glasses.

Sustainable collaboration with Fairventures

To mark this year's World Earth Day, MONDAINE has launched a collaborative project with the non-profit organisation Fairventures. The reforestation of Indonesia is one of the issues at the forefront of the NGO’s work. Replanting trees on degraded forest land not only helps to combat climate change but also offers new opportunities for local people to make a living. Fairventures strongly believes that active environmental protection is only viable if it also benefits the local community. Through the funds raised from its WE CARE MONDAINE/SBB Watch Collection, MONDAINE is providing targeted support to the Indonesian national project. The financial assistance will allow a currently deforested area to be replanted. The progress of the specific MONDAINE project can be viewed at any time on the Fairventures website. The area is labelled “MONDAINE”. For each watch sold, an impressive GBP16 will go directly to Fairventures. These watches feature a distinctive button depicting the globe and the words WE CARE, which conveys a clear message about the future of Mother Earth: the clock is ticking, and it is high time that climate change was stopped. We Care!
