MONDAINE INTRODUCES THE CLASSIC DAY DATE IN A BOLDER SIZE

Instant readability with timeless Swiss design

MONDAINE expands its iconic Swiss Made Classic Collection with the introduction of the Day Date in a refined 40 mm size. This new addition strengthens the collection with a slightly larger format, designed to offer enhanced legibility and everyday functionality while remaining true to MONDAINE’s minimalist design philosophy and Swiss precision.

Clear functionality and signature details

The new Classic Day Date 40 mm features a clean white dial with bold black hour and minute markers and MONDAINE’s iconic red seconds hand. Newly introduced large day and date windows positioned at 3 o’clock ensure instant readability and add a classical functional element to the design. Inspired by the Official Swiss Railways station clock, the dial remains uncompromisingly clear, balanced, and easy to read at a glance.

Encased in a meticulously designed 40 mm case made from recycled stainless steel, the watch combines durability with understated elegance. The proportions have been carefully considered to preserve the timeless character of the Classic Collection while catering to a wider range of wrist sizes and personal preferences.

Sustainable materials and everyday versatility

The watch is paired with a 20 mm wide plant based grape leather strap, produced from byproducts of the winemaking industry. This sustainable material choice offers a refined look and comfortable wear, while reinforcing MONDAINE’s long standing commitment to responsible material innovation. Inside the case, a reliable Swiss quartz movement ensures precision and ease of use, making the watch well suited for daily wear.

The origins of the Classic Collection

The Classic Collection dates back to 1986, when MONDAINE first made the design of the Official Swiss Railways station clock available as a wristwatch.

The Swiss Railways Clock was originally developed in 1944 by Hans Hilfiker, an engineer for the Swiss Federal Railways. His design represented a clear departure from the ornate clock faces of the Art Nouveau era, introducing a minimalist concept based on a white background, black rectangular hour and minute markers, geometric hands, and the distinctive red seconds hand with its circular disc. Inspired by the dispatchers’ signaling tools used in railway stations, the red disc allowed the time to be read, even from a distance.

The clarity, simplicity, and high legibility of this design have since made the Swiss Railways station clock an internationally recognized icon. MONDAINE’s

Classic Collection brought this design to the wrist and has remained faithful to its principles through numerous reinterpretations in different sizes, colours, and materials. Today, it continues to be one of MONDAINE’s most popular collections.
