In her studio and on walks with her dog, we meet Lara Begovic, a designer whose work reflects the same values of simplicity, function, and thoughtful design that shape the Doppio Bauhaus Inspired.
Some objects quietly accompany us through the rhythm of everyday life. A leash held in hand during a morning walk, the familiar weight of a watch on the wrist, small details that become part of daily rituals. For the launch of the Doppio Bauhaus Inspired, MONDAINE highlights a designer whose work reflects a similar philosophy: thoughtful design rooted in function, simplicity, and lasting quality. Photographed during moments from her everyday life, in the studio and on walks with her dog, she embodies a lifestyle where craftsmanship, design, and routine come together naturally. It is within these moments that the Doppio Bauhaus Inspired finds its place.

MONDAINE: Your work involves designing objects that combine functionality and aesthetics. How did your journey into creating handcrafted dog leashes begin?
Lara: I actually started KAHU at my kitchen table in Zurich while figuring out life with my
dog Ace. I couldn’t find dog accessories that were both durable and beautiful,
everything felt either too technical or too boring. My grandpa died the evening I made
my first collar. So I began making my own BioThane® collars and leashes, and
somewhere along the way it quietly turned into a brand.
MONDAINE: Your pieces feel both practical and carefully considered. How would you describe your approach to design?
Lara: For me design always starts with how something is used. A leash needs to feel good
in the hand, be easy to clean, and last for years, that’s the functional part. The
aesthetics come right after, because I believe practical things can still be bold, stylish
and a little fun.
MONDAINE: When you first saw the Doppio Bauhaus Inspired, what caught your attention from a design perspective?
Lara: What struck me first was the clarity. Nothing felt unnecessary and every detail
seemed intentional. As someone who works with design objects, I always notice
when something feels balanced without trying too hard.
MONDAINE: The Doppio Bauhaus Inspired draws on the Bauhaus philosophy often
summarized as “form follows function.” Does that idea resonate with the way you
approach your own work?
Lara: That idea resonates a lot with how I work. When you design something that people
use every single day, the function has to come first. The beauty comes from getting
that simplicity right.
MONDAINE: Our Doppio watches express a clear and refined design language through thoughtful construction and detail. In your work, do you find yourself balancing functionality with aesthetics?
Lara: Yes, constantly. I’m always balancing durability and elegance, because dog
accessories have to survive mud, water and daily wear. The challenge is making
something that performs well but still looks beautiful.
MONDAINE: The dial of the Doppio Bauhaus Inspired draws inspiration from Bauhaus colour theory. What role does colour play in expressing personality or shaping design?
Lara: Colour is a big part of my work. Many dog accessories are very neutral or purely
functional, but I like creating combinations that feel expressive and personal.
Sometimes a small colour detail is what makes an everyday object feel special.
MONDAINE: Walking a dog creates a natural rhythm in the day. What role do those daily walks play in your routine and your creative thinking?
Lara: Walking Ace structures my entire day. It forces me to slow down, step outside, and
reset my mind. Honestly, some of my best ideas come while we’re walking through
the forest. There’s something about that quiet rhythm that creates space for new
thoughts.
MONDAINE: Some objects quietly accompany us every day. What makes a design piece something you want to wear or use regularly?
Lara: For me it’s about quiet reliability. The best objects are the ones you reach for every
day without thinking about it. They simply work, and over time they become part of
your routine.
MONDAINE: If you could design the perfect everyday object, something simple but meaningful, what would it be?
Lara: I think I’d design a really thoughtful wall hook. Something extremely simple but
perfectly proportioned that could hold anything like a leash, a coat, a bag. It’s such a
small object, but when the design is right it becomes part of everyday life without you even noticing it.
