ICONIC SWISS MINIMALIST DESIGN

For more than 80 years, MONDAINE has stood for a distinctly Swiss approach to design: clear, functional and timeless. Defined by simplicity and purpose, this design philosophy has created an unmistakable identity that remains as relevant today as ever.

Today, Doppio brings a contemporary expression to MONDAINE's minimalist design language. Clean proportions and the deliberate principle of doubling create repetition, rhythm and balance, a refined evolution of the brand's Swiss design identity.

DESIGNED TO LAST

The roots of MONDAINE's design philosophy go back to 1944 and Swiss engineer and designer Hans Hilfiker, who believed that great design should be understood instantly.

His Official Swiss Railways Station Clock was created for Switzerland's railway stations with one clear purpose: to make time immediately readable. Bold hands, clear markers and balanced proportions were all determined by function. Nothing was added without reason.

More than eight decades later, the clock remains virtually unchanged, as recognisable, readable and modern today as when it was created. Its relevance is a powerful expression of the principles that remain at the heart of MONDAINE: clarity, functionality and timeless Swiss design.

One Red Hand

One detail stands out within the clarity of the original design: the red second hand.

Inspired by the signalling paddle once used by railway dispatchers at Swiss stations, its distinctive shape was created with purpose. Over time, this functional detail became an unmistakable MONDAINE signature, a bold expression of identity within an otherwise minimalist design.

FROM STATION TO WRIST

In 1986, MONDAINE translated the design principles of the Official Swiss Railways Station Clock into a wristwatch for the first time.

Its clear geometry, exceptional readability and distinctive red second hand were brought to the wrist without losing the simplicity and purpose of the original. The result was the MONDAINE SBB Collection, an everyday expression of Swiss design that remains instantly recognisable today.

The Meeting Point

At Zurich Main Station, the four-metre MONDAINE clock known as The Meeting Point has become a familiar landmark and a natural place to meet.

Every day, people gather beneath its instantly recognisable face to begin journeys, reconnect and share moments. More than a functional timekeeper, it shows how purposeful design can become part of everyday life and culture.

The same design continues to connect people wherever a MONDAINE watch is worn.

Around the World

The clarity and distinctive character of MONDAINE design have travelled far beyond Switzerland.

Recognised in museums, design collections, publications and public spaces around the world, its visual language has become an internationally recognised expression of Swiss minimalistic design.

From Switzerland to New York, London and beyond, its enduring presence demonstrates what truly timeless design can achieve: remaining distinctive, relevant and instantly recognisable across generations and cultures.
