A Touch of Switzerland in Lima: MONDAINE Clocks at Colegio Pestalozzi

At Colegio Pestalozzi in Lima, Peru, Switzerland is part of everyday life. As one of the 16 Swiss schools officially recognized by the Swiss Confederation, the school is committed to promoting Swiss culture, values, quality, and design.

That is why MONDAINE clocks have become a visible part of the campus. Two large MONDAINE clocks are prominently displayed in the reception area, where they welcome students, teachers, parents, and visitors every day. Additional clocks can be found in the staff room and several classrooms, with more recently added to areas such as sports facilities, meeting rooms, and the school kitchen.

"We wanted to place the clocks in central locations where they are both used daily and clearly visible," says Daniel Zehnder, Director of Colegio Pestalozzi.

The clocks have attracted plenty of attention. Visitors regularly comment on their distinctive design, while many appreciate the sense of Swiss quality and authenticity they bring to the school. One feature that particularly impresses guests is seeing the two reception clocks displaying Central European Time and local time with perfectly synchronized second hands.

For Colegio Pestalozzi, the iconic Swiss Railways Station Clock represents more than just timekeeping. "As a Swiss school, such elements have a special significance," explains Zehnder. "On behalf of the Swiss Confederation, we represent Swiss culture, values, and quality standards abroad. A Swiss Railways Station Clock therefore fits very well with our identity."

The clean, functional design of the Official Swiss Railways Station Clock also aligns with the school's educational philosophy. "In an increasingly digital world, the analogue clock evokes something timeless and clear," says Zehnder. "These are values that are also important in learning and sometimes get lost in the shuffle today."

For MONDAINE, seeing its iconic clocks become part of daily life at a Swiss school abroad is a meaningful example of how Swiss design continues to connect people and cultures around the world.
